Description : The Miaodigou site ( Chinese 庙底沟 遗址, Pinyin Miàodǐgōu yízhǐ , English Miaodigou site ) is an important Neolithic site in China. It is located in Miaodigou near Sanmenxia , Henan Province , and was excavated in 1957. The archaeological finds include historical remains from the time of the Yangshao culture ( Miaodigou-I culture ) and the Longshan culture ( Miaodigou-II culture ). Based on the stratigraphy of this site, the relationship between the Yangshao and Longshan cultures was clarified. The Miaodigou site has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-68) since 2001 . The culture known as Miaodigou II (i.e. the second period of the Miaodigou culture; Miàodǐgōu èrqī wénhuà 庙底沟 二期 文化; English Miaodigou II Culture ) is in the so-called central areas of China (i.e. Zhongyuan , on the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River) an intermediate stage of Yangshao culture and Longshan culture. It is believed to be one of the historical remains of the early Longshan culture; according to the radiocarbon method , it is dated to the years −2780 ± 145.
